Principal Contractor & CDM Capability

Where a project involves more than one contractor CEMA MEICA have been brought on board as principal contractor to control the construction phase and to ensure that health & safety is planned, managed, monitored, and coordinated throughout its project lifetime.

CEMA MEICA have also demonstrated to have the Skills, Knowledge & Experience (SKE) CDM regulations requires.

Examples of this include keeping records of continuing professional development (CPD), membership of professional bodies and having references from previous construction work and should also include but not be limited to the following:

• Prepare a written construction phase plan before the construction phase begins, implement, and then regularly review it to make sure it remains fit for purpose.

• Estimating the period of time required for programming the work.

• Organise co-operation between all contractors on site and ensure that they implement all legal H&S requirements.

• Liaise with client and Principal Designer for the duration of the project to ensure that all risks are effectively managed.

• Ensure all worker have site-specific inductions, and any further information and training they need

• Liaise with the Principal Designer to share any information relevant to the planning, management, monitoring and coordination of the pre-construction phase.

Duty Holders and Supervisors

The Principal Duty Holder is a person appointed by the business with responsibility for the maintenance of the overall standard and quality of the electrical installation work undertaken. Principal Duty Holders also have a responsibility to ensure that employees are competent to carry out the range of work required of them.

As well as some engineers in CEMA MEICA being a Principal Duty Holders under the NICIEC certification ours are also qualified supervisors.

 An appointed Principal Duty Holder will:

• Have responsibility for all matters relating to enrolment and be the main point of contact

• Be a full-time manager or employee of the business

• Have responsibility for health and safety and other legal requirements relating to the range of electrical work the business undertakes

• Be responsible for the assignment of electrical work to the Qualified Supervisor(s)

• Ensure that all work undertaken or arranged is carried out by competent persons who are appropriately supervised

• Ensure that the appropriate certificates and reports are issued for all completed electrical work
